Profile Czarina Ray Currently based in Vancouver Czarina previously studied and worked in Glasgow and London. Registered as an ARB & RIAI Architect & designer with 12 years of experience in creating residential and public buildings. Particularly in Performing Arts buildings and single family dwellings. Czarina is committed to the delivery of well-conceived and thoughtfully detailed architecture for forward thinking clients with equal enthusiasm for design. An ambition to understand the spirit of the places in which we build, with consideration of the bigger picture is a fundamental to all projects. Approach to Design Projects evolve through thoughtful exploration, utilizing various mediums; each medium provokes a different response to help understand, identify and create an answer to unique constraints in an attentive manner. Relationships between geography, climate, cultural/ social traditions and local building technologies is studied to generate a sensitive architectural response that is fitting for its environment. Context is a vital component that creates good architecture. This process is a starting block to generate distinctive design tailored to the scope to address the experience for all of the 5 senses. Czarina believes that design ideas should not be preconceived, nor are imposed onto a project, but instead they emerge from the design process. Each idea should be explored through dialogue, drawing, modeling, prototyping and detailing. Final decisions become the expression, the eventual design is not only singular but also uniquely customized to the user, site, and environment. The end result always belongs to the consumer, a project’s success is gauged against the users experiences when interacting with a piece of architecture. Recognition & Contributions Over the past decade Czarina’s project collaborations have been recognized in, Canadian Architect, Residential Design publication, Western Living publication, Venice Design 2018, Platform Venice 2021, Gray Awards, A83 New York, Azure, Dezeen top 10 houses, Small Houses and Interiors (book) ArchDaily and Diversity & Density MOV 2016.
